About

We aim to provide a unique service, supporting thousands of Islanders by offering affordable educational and creative activities for all ages, together with exchanges of books and materials to Island schools and books, friendship and care to our rural community.

The Family Library is based on Westmoreland Road, Douglas and is primarily a specialist centre for young people but has become a stimulating environment for parents and grandparents too. We provide the largest and most wide-ranging reading material for children on the Island, as well as running a full timetable of educational, seasonal and creative activities for all ages - ensuring affordability and innovation is within
reach of everyone.

The Mobile vehicle brings a library and community meeting place to rural areas as well as deliveries and exchanges to care homes all around the Island. The Home Service vehicle brings much needed books and digital audio-books to those who are unable to get to a library. In April 2016 we launched a brand new Bibliotherapy service, which encourages good mental health, sharing histories and memories through sociability and communication. The sessions have proved be instantly popular and much in demand.

The Schools Service delivers book exchanges to the Island’s schools as well as providing inspirational materials - artefacts, puppets, Story Sacks and display materials - that enrich the learning experience for all pupils. Teachers borrow further resources for shorter loan periods and specific projects. We also arrange visits to classes and nurseries, and classes and nurseries visit the library in return.
